The program allows the resident to work with each of the Boarded faculty within the section on a case by case basis as well as encouraging interaction with other specialists within the department and college. All residents participate in operation of an emergency service on a rotating basis. However, this residency will focus efforts on cases involving Llamas, Alpacas and Camels. Clinical rotations facilitate development of clinical proficiency, clinical skills and knowledge of medicine and surgery through exposure to a variety of cases at all levels of complexity. This goal is facilitated by the largest in clinic food animal caseload in the United States (over 2,700 hospital cases per year, approximately 1,000 of these cases are camelids). Case management is carried out with the guidance and collaboration of experienced faculty who are recognized experts in their respective fields. State-of-the-art equipment and facilities are available to develop technical expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
