Does it matter how long ago my coursework was completed?

Yes.  Science courses 10 years and older are not accepted.  However, if you can prove advanced coursework or career use of the scientific information that supports your mastery of the content covered in the old courses, you may submit a petition to waive the requirement.

Do I have to complete all required coursework prior to submitting my application?

No.  You may take as many of the required courses during the Fall term of the year in which you apply.  However, you are only allowed to have one (1) required course remaining during Winter Qtr/Spring Semester of the year of matriculation.

Can I use Advanced Placement (AP) credits to fulfill prerequisite courses?

In order to receive credit for AP courses, they must be listed on official transcripts from a college or university you have attended.

What is the deadline for submitting GRE scores?

There is no firm deadline for submitting your GRE scores, per se.  However, applicants are invited to complete the Supplemental Application based on GPA and GRE/MCAT test scores.   If we do not have your scores, we cannot invite you to complete the Supplemental Application.

What is the deadline for taking the GRE?

Sept. 30

My GRE scores are five years old.  Do I need to retake the exam?

Yes.  We do not accept scores older than 5 years.

May I submit VCAT scores?

Unfortunately, no.  We are no longer accepting VCAT scores.

How much Veterinary experience is required?

Applicants must complete a minimum of 80 hours of veterinary experience.

Is a Vet Technician allowed to complete my Veterinary Experience Verification form?

No.

Where do I get an application for admission?

I applied last year.  Do I need to resubmit a new application?

Yes.  While we do keep applications on file for one year, reapplicants are required to submit new letters of recommendation.  Reapplicants are welcome to use the same references from the previous application, however, the evaluations and letters must be new.  Additionally, reapplicants are required to submit updated transcripts only.

How do I establish residency?

Out-of-State Applicants, once admitted, are eligible to apply for residency after the first year of attendance in our DVM program.  Please contact the
University Registrar for more information as well as for other qualifications for establishing residency.

Can I transfer to OSU's College of Vet Medicine from another vet school?

Is The Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine the only vet school in Ohio?

Yes.

Where should I mail my transcripts?

Only those applicants who are invited to complete the Supplemental Application should submit their transcripts.  One (1) official transcript for each post-secondary college or university you have attended should be mailed directly to the Office of Professional Admissions, P.O. Box 182003, Columbus, OH 43218-2003.

When are admissions decisions made?

Admissions decisions are made between November and April.  No student is required to accept an offer of admission to any school prior to the national deadline date of April 15.

Can I defer enrollment?

No.

Why is the Veterinary Experience Verification form necessary?

This form is necessary for the purpose of verifying that an applicant has had a minimum of 80 hours of experience under the supervision of a Veterinarian.

I have taken the GRE several times, do you combine the highest sections from each test for a total score?

No.  We take the highest score from one exam.

What kind scholarships are available for Veterinary students?

Students are considered for various scholarships once admitted.

What is the class size?

We have 140 seats; 97 of which are filled by OH applicants; 38 from Out-of-State; and 5 contract seats for WV students.

Do Ohio applicants have a better chance of being accepted to OSU's CVM?

Only in that there are more seats for OH applicants than there are for Out-of-State applicants.  Additionally, we receive more Out-of-State applications each year, therefore, Ohio residents are not competing with as many applicants.

How will I know that you have received my VMCAS/Supplemental application?

When submitting your application via VMCAS, you will be emailed a submission confirmation.  This should suffice for the time being.  In the event that you are invited to complete the Supplemental Application, the Office of Veterinary Student Affairs will notify all invitees if they are missing any application materials.
