Our Facility & Equipment

Maintaining a safe and ready supply of blood products requires specialized equipment. Just as some of the world's most famous restaurants have small and unassuming kitchens, we have small but amazing resources. Pictured to the right is the area where we receive blood from the dogs or cats for their donation and our refrigerated centrifuge. It costs thousands of dollars and is not that different from what one would use with human blood banks.

On the wall is our Donor Board where we can quickly see at at a glance:

• the dog or cat who has given,
• who is eligible to again donate, and
• what products we have on hand

Elsewhere we have a special laboratory where we process the blood into one or more of several blood products.

Our Animal Blood Bank is off to a great start with special freezers and refrigerators, but we do have a wish list for other equipment and staffing that will enable us to achieve our long-term goals. Storage equipment

The units pictured below provide blood products in ready access for our Veterinary Teaching Hospital and for Veterinarians in our community who require blood products for a client. These units, hooked to special emergency power sources, are alarmed to warn of a highly unlikely power outage or instances where a door is not closed properly – thus protecting the safety of our perishable blood products.
