VTH Converts to 24/7 Emergency Service

After years of closing the clinic doors when the clock struck twelve, The Ohio State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is now remaining open for emergencies after midnight. Over the past several years, we recognized a need to progress to a 24/7 Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care service in order to help foster a robust and diverse caseload and to better serve the public. By staying open to receive patients eight more hours each night, we will also augment student learning opportunities, resident training programs, and improve private practitioner consultation and referral services. We are happy to provide a closer option for residents living in the campus and surrounding area to bring their pet when time is so critical. Saving ten or fifteen minutes in transportation time can sometimes make the difference between life and death.

Emergency and critical care residents and interns will staff the service, with faculty remaining available on call. An on-call surgical team will also be ready for any emergent need.
