Congratulations to our
new Distinguished University Professor Dr. Yasuko Rikihisa, Department of
Veterinary Biosciences. This permanent,
honorific title is bestowed by the Office of Academic Affairs on a competitive
basis to no more than two full professors per year who have truly exceptional records
in teaching, research, scholarly or creative work, and service. Dr. Rikihisa’s
research has led to commercial recognition, as well as membership in the
National Academy of Sciences. One of her nominators had this to say about her, “Dr.
Rikihisa is a highly regarded scholar who has a stellar record both nationally
and internationally. Her research has provided fundamental knowledge in the
scientific literature regarding important blood borne pathogens of man and
A member of Ohio State’s faculty since 1986, Rikihisa was named the university’s 2011 Innovator of the Year by the Office of Research in recognition of her record of translational research and commercialization activities. She also is a fellow of the American Association of the Advancement of Science and the American Academy of Microbiology, received the Ohio State Distinguished Scholar Award in 1999, and is an investigator in Ohio State’s Center for Microbial Interface Biology, the Public Health Preparedness for Infectious Diseases (PHPID) program, the Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology program, and the Comprehensive Cancer Center. She has also been recently nominated to the National Academy of Sciences. Again, congratulations to Dr. Yasuko Rikihisa for all of her past achievements here at Ohio State!
Dr. Rikihisa was also featured in Ohio State's faculty and staff newspaper OnCampus: 2014 Distinguished University Professors.
