We feel strongly that experiencing veterinary medicine in private practice is a very important component of veterinary student education. Our specialists and emergency doctors enjoy teaching and education is a keystone of our practice philosophy.

We are a 24/7 specialty and referral center with specialists in the areas of surgery, neurology, internal medicine, oncology, dentistry, physical therapy, and emergency and critical care. We see referral and emergency cases from the entire Southeast. All of our departments are housed within the same award-winning facility and work closely together to ensure quality medicine and patient care. We have an in-house lab, ultrasound, digital radiography, CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, endoscopy, ventilator, oxygen cages, and blood bank.

Our externs are expected to attend 8am weekday rounds and participate as indicated. The extern will be scheduled with a specific service daily but this is flexible as to allow for variations in caseload. Typical duties include shadowing the clinician in appointments, assisting with procedures, scrubbing in for surgery, developing treatment plans, and interpreting diagnostic tests. We expect externs to be present for approximately 40 hours/week (depending on their school's requirements). If externs are specifically interested in emergency medicine or surgery we can schedule after hours shifts or have them called in for emergency surgeries after-hours.
