Laboratory Animal/Large Animal Medicine and Surgery
2 week externship opportunity with immersion in herd health topics in a group of agricultural species used in laboratory setting. Exposure to surgical techniques,a variety of imaging modalities and study protocol analysis and management in these animals provided study availability. Students will also be able to practice basic skills such as venipuncture, handling, anesthetic protocol and physical exam skills.

  • Clinical rounds on surgical animals and herd health
  • Student is expected to be on the premises 7am-5pm Monday-Friday.
  • During this time student will be expected to assess physical status of animals to be used during that day.
  • Student is expected to be involved in physical exams, anesthesia protocol planning, surgical opportunities, administration of study medication and general herd health medical management as time allows.
TDMI has a full time clinical veterinarian who will be available 7am-5pm Monday-Friday in addition to emergency calls after hours/weekends.
