The David White Graduate Fellowship

The David White Fellowship is a highly selective graduate award designed to provide advanced research training through a unique program of consecutive rotations through three different funded laboratories. This experience provides the fellow with broad exposure to the college research environment, including a range of faculty and research expertise that fosters vast knowledge of methodologies and techniques. The David White Fellow will receive graduate tuition, fees and a monthly stipend. Upon completing these rotations, fellows will work with their advisors to identify a research laboratory to complete their doctoral work.

The College of Veterinary Medicine is part of the most comprehensive health sciences center in the United States. It offers interdisciplinary research training opportunities for graduate students, leading to careers as independent biomedical scientists. A new international focus on “One Health” recognizes the crucial links between human, animal and environmental health. With the guidance of exceptional, world-renowned faculty, students in Comparative and Veterinary Medicine specialize in signature areas that include:

• Infectious Diseases
• Antimicrobial resistance mechanisms
• Pathobiology, treatment, and prevention of viruses - Host response to infection and local microbial communities
• Ecology of pathogen emergence and spread
• Comparative and Translational Oncology
• Neuromusculoskeletal/Regenerative Medicine

Successful PhD applicants must be eligible to participate in an NIH-training grant, which requires US citizenship or permanent residency, a minimum 3.5 GPA, and GRE scores above the 70th percentile, as well as show evidence of strong research potential. DVMs/VMDs are encouraged to apply.  Individuals may be invited to campus for interviews and selection for this fellowship requires successful completion of a background check.
